Description Silver Calcium Alginate Dressing is a high‑performance sterile wound dressing composed of seaweed‑derived calcium alginate fibers impregnated with ionic silver. The calcium alginate fibers absorb wound exudate and, upon contact with fluid, exchange calcium ions with sodium ions from wound fluid — forming a soft hydrophilic gel that conforms to the wound bed. This gel helps maintain an optimal moist environment for wound healing while absorbing fluid and reducing risk of maceration. The impregnated silver ions are gradually released in presence of wound exudate, delivering a broad‑spectrum antimicrobial effect that helps suppress microbial colonization and infection risk. This feature makes the dressing especially suitable for wounds at risk of infection or already colonized. Key Features & Benefits: High absorbency & exudate management: The alginate fibres can absorb and retain significant amounts of exudate, converting it into gel and preventing leakage or re‑contamination. Moist wound healing environment: The gel formed keeps the wound bed moist — facilitating granulation and healing while minimizing scarring. Antimicrobial protection: Silver ions released from the dressing inhibit growth of bacteria (e.g. Staphylococcus aureus, E. coli) and some fungi — reducing infection risk. Conformable & versatile: Soft, flexible dressing that can be cut and applied to wounds of varying shapes — suitable for superficial wounds, cavity wounds, ulcers, donor sites, surgical and traumatic wounds. Hemostatic effect: The calcium alginate can help in controlling minor bleeding, making it suitable for fresh wounds or donor sites. Gentle dressing changes: The gel reduces adherence to the wound bed, minimizing trauma and pain at dressing removal. Indications / Suitable Uses: Moderate to heavily exuding wounds Chronic wounds: diabetic foot ulcers, venous/arterial leg ulcers, pressure (bed) sores / decubitus ulcers Surgical wounds, trauma wounds, donor and graft sites Burns (partial thickness), cavity wounds, post‑operative wounds Instructions / Handling Notes:Before application, cleanse the wound area with sterile saline or appropriate wound cleanser. Apply the sterile dressing directly over the wound. For wounds with heavy exudate, a secondary absorbent dressing (foam, hydrocolloid, or other) may be required to secure and cover the alginate dressing. Change dressing at intervals recommended by a wound care professional; if dressing sticks, moisten with sterile saline before removal to avoid trauma. Precautions / Limitations: Not recommended for dry or minimally exuding wounds (risk of desiccation). Avoid prolonged continuous use in large area wounds when silver exposure is high — silver dressings may carry risk of silver‑related tissue discoloration (argyria) if overused repeatedly. Always use under appropriate clinical guidance; change frequency depends on exudate amount and wound condition.
